Introductions from Andrew and Meredith
Course Curriculum It's great to meet you and have you join our family. We are two professionally qualified and certified educational specialists who have been teaching and advising students, and parents for over twenty years. Andrew a Masters in Educational Leadership (Bath), a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Exeter), and a Post Graduate Certificate in College Counseling (UCLA). He is a member of the Independent Education group. We know how hard choices can be, so we made a comprehensive course just for you so that you can navigate your way into college/university after high/secondary school.
The short version. The long read.
What you will get out of this set of online lessons: The outcomes of each unit in this series of lessons have your needs at the heart of their production.
Section one - Introduction: The "how-to section" - take the time to finish this; you will get more out of the course, lots of information on joining our community, and pacing yourself to maximize learning.
Section two - Week 1: Knowing yourself is the foundation of a great essay, and knowing what life options there are for you is the foundation of making great choices. We cover both this week in Let Get Into. Enjoy some personality tests and gain insight into the skills needed to be a doctor, engineer, or whatever you want to be.
Section three - Week 2: Knowing your choices and placing yourself into several of them is called "best fit." In this section, you will understand the basics of the best-fit organizational tool we designed for you! We cover GPAs and SAT/ACT scores and apply them to colleges in several areas in the USA. You can then follow our five-step program to narrow down your major and find a short list of the schools you would like to apply to.
Section four - Week 3: This week, you will understand what you need from a college, you will learn how to calculate the ticket price of a college and out-of-pocket prices, and you will explore your academic, financial, and social needs. This section focuses on narrowing down your short list.
Here is a brief overview of whats to come. The first section of the course is all about orientation, how to log on, know the course outline and how to work your way through it. We give you a brief overview and an introduction to using Zoom, we meet twice a month and would loe you to join us, and get to know you more. The Zoom meeting helps us ask quesiotns and build a support network for each other.
After this, you will start to learn a little more about personality types through the Holland tests we perform and by looking at the ONet profession profile. In this section we are utilizing tests to drive your understanding of your career goals and in the process help you understand yourself more. The objective is to help you understand the variety of pathways you have at this time, but to be more selective in viewing your choices so you so not feel overwhelmed. At the end of this session you will probably have selected your own career choice!
